A big-screen showing of the 1954 monster film Godzilla, in which nuclear testing in the Pacific spawns a 150-foot-tall creature that goes on a destructive rampage. Directed by Ishirô Honda and starring Takashi Shimura, Akihiko Hirata, and Akira Takarada, the film stands as an allegory for the atom bomb in post-WWII Japan. It is the beginning of the longest-running film series in history, shown here in a new restoration.
