"Hilda Shen: Their Landscapes" is an exhibition of the Brooklyn-based artist's recent ceramic sculptures and prints, shown in the museum's Cheng Gallery. It inaugurates Solo Artist Projects (SAP), a MOCA initiative presenting one-person exhibitions of new work by artists of Chinese descent living and working in New York City. Shen's practice is marked by an inquisitive scrutiny of nature and an instinct for deconstruction, with forms that can appear both ancient and futuristic, naturally occurring and handmade, undergoing construction and decay. Her details and motifs open up conversations cutting across post-minimalism, Chinese landscape painting, and architectural space.
