"Costume Art" is an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, running from May 10, 2026 to January 10, 2027. The Costume Institute's spring 2026 show explores depictions of the dressed body across the museum's collection, pairing garments with artworks to reveal the relationship between clothing and the body. Focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, it organizes pairings of fashions and artworks into thematic body types, spanning connections from the formal to the conceptual and the playful to the profound. It is the inaugural exhibition in new, nearly 12,000-square-foot galleries adjacent to the Great Hall, and the artist Joan Semmel is included in it.
