A gallery exhibition of early optical art made between 1963 and 1966. It presents experimental work by Julian Stanczak, Henry Charles Pearson, and James Kelly, artists associated with the Op Art movement from the beginning, including both artists who appeared in the Museum of Modern Art's 1965 exhibition The Responsive Eye. Stanczak built rectilinear compositions from lines of varying lengths, spacing, color, and value, suggesting overlapping planar shapes floating in space, while Pearson used curved lines to evoke topographical maps and landscape elevations, drawing on his training in US Army defense mapping.
