An exhibition of paintings by Kenneth Victor Young titled "Works 1970 - 1972", held at Andrew Kreps Gallery at 394 Broadway. It focuses on the artist's "orb" paintings from the early 1970s, a series said to have pushed the vocabulary of color field painting. Young, born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1933 and who died in Washington, D.C. in 2017, studied physics and chemical engineering before turning to painting, and used a stain technique of soaking diluted acrylic into unstretched, unprimed canvas. His soft-edged floating forms, tied to his love of jazz and his scientific background, express what he called a desire for "unity in the midst of a chaotic existence".
