A Technicolor film noir starring Gene Tierney as Ellen Berent, a beautiful, possessive woman whose overly dependent love for her husband grows increasingly sinister. Director John M. Stahl's chilling tale of obsession, jealousy, and deadly devotion became 20th Century Fox's highest-grossing film of the 1940s, with Tierney earning an Oscar nomination as a femme fatale unlike the usual kind.
