MACE, the Mannes American Composers Ensemble, gives a fall 2026 concert of contemporary music featuring works by Pierre Boulez, Tristan Murail, Josh Modney, Kaija Saariaho, and student compositions from the Mannes School of Music. The ensemble was founded in 2012 by composer and Mannes faculty member Lowell Liebermann and presents works by iconic American composers alongside young and up-and-coming creators. Composer and conductor David Fulmer has directed the ensemble since 2016, leading programs of 20th and 21st century masterpieces, new commissions, premieres, and works by Mannes composition students. In the ensemble, students work closely with composers, learning their notation, musical symbols, and sonic design through close collaboration.
