An exhibition of recent works on paper by Marcos Bontempo, presented in person and online at a gallery in New York, with an opening reception. Hybrid creatures and finely drawn human figures emerge from restless strokes and mottled pigment against fields of black, rust red, and ochre. Bontempo gives his figures rooms to inhabit and improbable companions, where solemnity and absurdity keep close company in a private theater. With a sweep of the brush and the quick intelligence of a line, he makes the impossible feel intimately familiar.
