"On the Road" is a group exhibition of paintings exploring American car culture and its impact on the nation's landscape. It is presented at Louis K. Meisel Gallery, whose artists include originators of Photorealism and contemporary Photorealists. The works show classic roadside motels, gas stations, diners and endless highways, with some paintings placing abandoned cars and desolate streets at their center. Others, by artists such as Tom Blackwell and Peter Maier, turn close-up views of vehicles' glossy surfaces and intricate machinery into semi-abstract compositions.
