An online course examining the tension between religious freedom and U.S. immigration law, run by Union Theological Seminary. It offers an overview of how faith-motivated support for immigrants can be prosecuted or shielded, then studies the case of No More Deaths volunteers prosecuted under the harboring law in southern Arizona in 2019. The instructor is Scott Warren, an Arizona-based cultural geographer and border humanitarian volunteer who himself faced trial in 2018-2019 for providing humanitarian aid. Sessions aim to draw practical lessons for supporting immigrants, including those who may be undocumented, in the current political moment.
