A lecture open to the public in which author Sherry Turkle is interviewed by writer Katie Hafner about her book Artificial Intimacy: Who We Become When We Talk to Machines. Turkle is a professor at MIT who has spent decades studying how digital technologies isolate us from one another. The book warns that reliance on human-like AI chatbots offering themselves as friends, lovers, and psychotherapists erodes our capacity for empathy, care, and attachment. Held in the Members' Room and online, it examines how machine relationships leave a generation more alienated and lonely.
