The film 'Spring in a Small Town' by Fei Mu, often cited as one of the greatest Chinese films of all time, shows a love triangle in China after the Sino-Japanese War. The ill Liyan lives with his wife Yuwen in a decimated household, until her former lover Zhichen visits and Yuwen faces an impossible choice. Made in a restrained, poetic style of long takes, it remains a deeply affecting human drama, shown here as the US premiere of its 4K restoration.
