"Fitting" is the tenth solo exhibition of the painter Suzanne Caporael at Miles McEnery Gallery. In these new oil paintings on linen, Caporael fits polyomino shapes into one another using the four-color theorem of cartography. Tertiary colors describe the shapes' adjacency and boundaries, while her layered paint handling softens their edges into textured surfaces. The show explores the tension between rigid systems and the fluidity of perception, and is accompanied by a catalog with an essay by Susan Tallman.
