The Cockpit is a documentary film by Sho Miyake. Its subject is a cramped apartment in the suburbs of Tokyo that serves as a recording studio, where underground producer-rapper OMSB and his cohort Bim lay down a new track titled “Curve Death Match.” Shot largely from a camera locked to the workstation facing the duo, the film follows the songwriting process from sampling and beat-making to writing and the final recording. It offers an intimate, pared-to-the-bone breakdown of the intricacies of hip-hop artistry.
