A screening of the film The Vourdalak. Directed by Adrien Beau and starring Kacey Mottet Klein, Ariane Labed, Grégoire Colin and Vassili Schneider, it adapts Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy's 1839 novella 'The Family of the Vourdalak,' telling of the Marquis d'Urfé, an envoy for the King who, lost in a misty forest, shelters with a Serbian family awaiting the return of their patriarch—only to find he has transformed into something both more and less than human. The unsettling, often funny vampire story combines live action with uncanny puppet effects and super 16mm widescreen cinematography.
