A screening of the film "The Wailing". Director Na Hong-jin's 2016 tale follows country police sergeant Kwak Do-won investigating murders linked to a strange, sense-deranging sickness, while villagers blame a Japanese drifter suspected of being an evil spirit. Steeped in ancient east Asian folklore and Christian symbolism, it is a work of insinuating, creeping terror that turns horror tropes inside out into something unpredictable and genuinely disturbing.
