A Mandarin playgroup for children aged 2 to 4.5, with a maximum of ten children and two to three native-speaker teachers. It is run by the LittleMandarin Chinese School, whose theme-based curriculum integrates music and movement, communication, math, science and creative art and crafts in a fully immersive Chinese environment. From age three children also begin character recognition activities, and after two terms a child should be able to speak and understand about 50 commonly used words. Chinese songs, nursery rhymes, poetry, painting and calligraphy as well as festivals and traditions deepen the children's love of the language.
