A talk on how satellites observe clouds, storms, temperature and precipitation from space, providing essential data for weather forecasts and climate research. Behind the talk is Prof. Dr. Andreas Prein, Professor of high-resolution weather and climate modelling at ETH Zurich. He addresses how climate change influences extreme events such as this summer's heatwaves and how satellite data feed into weather and climate models. AI-based models that could predict extreme weather earlier and more accurately are also discussed.
