The Critical Mass is a worldwide movement in which cyclists meet and ride together through the city. On the last Friday of every month at 8 pm, even at Christmas and in any weather, Critical Mass Berlin takes place and lasts about two hours. The meeting point is normally Mariannenplatz, and several hundred participants now take part. The group rides compactly in a single lane, follows the traffic rules and stays peaceful – the aim is for cyclists, as non-motorized road users, to reclaim a piece of public space, the street, at least for a while.
