About
"If Pigeons Turned to Gold" is a documentary by Pepa Lubojacki who, over more than five years, follows four family members, above all her brother David, who struggles with alcohol addiction and homelessness. In a diary-like collage of text sculptures, long-term observation, synth beats and childhood photographs animated with AI, the film tries to uncover the roots of misfortune passed down across generations. Seeking healing rather than blame, it ends with the possibility of transformation, embodied in the father's decaying house, which Pepa turns into a place of safety. The film premiered at the Berlinale 2025, where it won the Berlinale Documentary Film Award and the Caligari Film Prize.
