Monga: a performance on Julia Pastrana.

„Monga“ is a poetic performance with live music in which Jéssica Teixeira encounters Julia Pastrana, who was exhibited as an attraction in so-called “freak shows” in the 19th century. Starting from her own body, the Brazilian artist tells of Pastrana's 26-year life, marked by exploitation and inhumane working conditions. Teixeira uses her own body as raw material of the dramaturgy, mirrors and exposes the gawkers, and keeps the audience suspended between intimacy, humor and shock. The result is an evening between performance, poetry and live concert, complete with shots of cachaça.
