August are a five-piece band playing a show at Chats Palace, an arts centre in Hackney. Their sound sits between Harry Nilsson, Tom Waits, Beck and TV on the Radio: art rock in theory, pop in hypothesis, and in reality entertaining and hard to label. The band members come from New York, Bermuda, Sheffield, Essex and Devon, and over the last year they have taken their fast-paced medicine show across London, winning smiles and the occasional wave.
