Medicine & Health Panel Event: Orbis – Use of Technology and Innovation to combat avoidable blindness around the world

The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, Bartholomew Close 39A, London, West Smithfield

About

A panel event on how the eyesight charity Orbis uses technology and virtual reality to fight avoidable blindness worldwide. The speaker, Larry Benjamin, a recently retired ophthalmologist and former trustee of Orbis UK, is a member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists' Medicine and Health panel and has supported Orbis projects since 2004. He will introduce areas such as the "flying eye hospitals" serving hard-to-reach regions, the Cybersight telemedicine platform that trains medical professionals, and cost-effective virtual reality equipment for training eye surgeons. The hybrid event lets participants join in person or remotely and includes demonstrations of the equipment used.
