About

A drop-in seminar in the Physics of Life series at Imperial College London, held in room RSM 303 at the Royal School of Mines on the South Kensington Campus. The speaker is Min Kyung Shinn, with Chiu Fan Lee also involved. The talk looks at nuclear speckles, treating serine/arginine-rich RNA binding proteins as block copolymers whose inter-domain interactions drive microphase separation into small ordered assemblies of 23-45 nanometres. It also discusses how the long non-coding RNA MALAT1 promotes this separation and how SRSF1 condensates may help splicing of pre-mRNA.
