The reconfiguration of anti-gender activism in the queer nation of Taiwan
SOAS University of London, Bloomsbury
About
A seminar talk at SOAS University of London exploring how anti-gender activism in Taiwan has changed, from conservative Christian movements to newer gender-critical feminist groups. Dr Juliette Duléry, a researcher at the University of Liège and SOAS, examines these groups through an ethnographic approach, looking at debates around gender, sexuality and national identity. The talk considers how such activism emerged in opposition to same-sex marriage, legalised in Taiwan in 2019, and how gender politics are securitised amid heightened Chinese military threat.
