About
This is the New York launch of the book "Prison Hashtags: Incarceration, Reentry, and Digital Identity," presented by Roosevelt House at Hunter College. The book is by criminal justice scholars Calvin John Smiley and Jan Haldipur, who will be joined in conversation by Columbia School of Social Work associate professor Rob Eschmann. Their book explores the role of social media in how justice-impacted individuals reconcile their past, establish their present, and create their future. Based on more than six years of digital ethnography, it examines how people in prison and returning to society use platforms like Instagram for community, networking, entrepreneurship, and activism.
