Ilan Averbuch: After the Fire
Nancy Hoffman Gallery, West 27th Street 520, 10001 New York, Manhattan
About
An exhibition of new sculpture and works on paper by Ilan Averbuch at Nancy Hoffman Gallery, his first there since 2017. Born in Tel Aviv and based in Long Island City, Averbuch transforms recycled materials such as curbstone, old bridge stone, and industrial steel into works carrying memory and history. Titled "After the Fire," the show responds to the war in Gaza and to a fire that destroyed the artist's studio and much of his work on paper. It brings together granite and steel sculptures with an extensive body of drawings, including a mosaic of seventy-five small sketches and works with carved granite faces.
