New Relations: Adrian Johnston on psychoanalysis and AI.

Day one of the conference "New Relations: Interrogating Machine Unconsciousness", an evening keynote opening a two-day gathering on whether psychoanalysis can extend to artificial intelligence. It is presented by Philosophy at The New School for Social Research and supported by New School departments and offices. The keynote is delivered by Adrian Johnston, Chair of Philosophy at the University of New Mexico, under the title "Oedipus in the Clouds: An Infinite Greed for Knowledge". The conference asks whether large language models can participate in an "algorithmic unconscious" or whether the encounter with AI instead shows what is specific and irreducible about the speaking subject.
