Talks and readings
The Ghost of the Forest: okapi talk by John Lukas.
About
An in-person lecture at The Explorers Club on conserving the okapi, the Ghost of the Forest, amid escalating armed conflict and a major Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The talk is given by John Lukas, founder and president of the Okapi Conservation Project, founded in 1987 to safeguard the Okapi Wildlife Reserve in the Ituri Rainforest. The globally endangered okapi is found only in the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose Ituri Rainforest faces poaching, violent insurgent groups, and agricultural expansion. The evening includes an audience Q&A and a beer and wine reception.
