The Venetian Renaissance and Ottoman Empire
School of Visual Arts, East 23rd Street 209, 10010, Manhattan
About
A day-long conference titled "The Venetian Renaissance and Ottoman Empire" takes place at the School of Visual Arts' Amphitheater on the third floor of 209 East 23rd Street. It is presented by the school's Art History department, with support from a major grant of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Six leading scholars of art history and cultural studies deliver lectures on the dialogues between the Republic of Venice and the Ottoman Empire, and on how visual and material culture expressed the complexities of their relationship. A special emphasis lies on how symbols of power in visual art changed as the two cultures provoked and inspired one another.
