This gallery talk brings together two scholars of the academy's history for an open conversation about Max Liebermann and Max Slevogt. Dr. Anke Matelowski and Dr. Ulrike Möhlenbeck will join exhibition curator Viktoria Bernadette Krieger to discuss the two painters, regarded today as leading representatives of German Impressionism. Twenty years apart in age and very different in character, their paths repeatedly crossed — the talk explores how Liebermann rose to become academy president and what path Slevogt took after joining in 1914. Audience participation and questions are warmly welcomed, followed by a convivial glass of wine.
