About
"Bioluminescence" is a theatre piece by the crip-queer project Criptonite, presented as a guest performance at Theater an der Parkaue as part of the "No Limits – Festival for Disability & Performing Arts". Criptonite was founded in 2020 by Nina Mühlemann and Edwin Ramirez and centres the work of disabled artists, treating accessibility as aesthetics. In a post-apocalypse, four disabled people join together and create an opulent soundscape; with the help of memory they conjure magic formulas to honour their disabled ancestors and transform the world around them. With humour, pop music and Patricia the tortoise, the piece asks what survival really means – performed in spoken English with surtitles in German and English, translation into German sign language, integrated audio description, and as a relaxed performance.
