Dokumentationszentrum Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung, Stresemannstraße 90, 10963 Berlin, Kreuzberg
free of charge
About
A workshop in which participants learn to read old handwriting: Sütterlin, the cursive script of many letters and diaries by German refugees and expellees. After a brief introduction to the history of the script, the letters are practised hands-on and selected short texts from the Documentation Centre Flucht, Vertreibung, Versöhnung's collection are deciphered together. The workshop is led by Gesa Füßle, a translator, editor and specialist in deciphering Sütterlin. Participants are welcome to bring their own documents to practise reading historical handwriting.
