Die Teufel von Loudun

A Halloween special presents „The Devils“, made in 1971 by Ken Russell, in its restored Director's Cut, one of the most controversial films in history. The story is based on the 1952 non-fiction book „The Devils of Loudun“ by Aldous Huxley and John Whiting's subsequent 1960 play „The Devils“. In 17th-century France, Father Urbain Grandier's protection of the city of Loudun from the corrupt Cardinal Richelieu is undermined by a sexually repressed nun, Sister Jeanne des Anges, accusing him of witchcraft. Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave star, with screenplay and direction by Ken Russell.
