About

A guided tour of about two hours through the Hansaviertel and Moabit, with no registration required. Nirit Ben-Joseph leads the tour, which takes place as part of the project OFFEN FÜR KULTUR, funded by the LOTTO-Stiftung Berlin. It is about the so-called „U-Boote“: up to 4,000 persecuted people who tried to hide in Berlin between 1941 and 1945 from deportation and extermination by the Nazi regime, of whom only 1,700 were saved with the help of “silent heroines and heroes”. The tour visits places where Jewish people hid, in order to understand how risky these rescue actions were and to sketch the different motives for helping.
