The opening concert of Barocktage 2026 is devoted to the mythical figure of the singer Orpheus and his musical facets since Claudio Monteverdi. Tenor Rolando Villazón is joined by Christina Pluhar on the theorbo, leading her Ensemble L’Arpeggiata, as well as by Céline Scheen and further singers. Scenes from L’Orfeo and the highly dramatic Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda tell of passionate love, tragic error and irretrievable loss. Supplemented by works by Luigi Rossi, Antonio Sartorio, Lorenzo Allegri and Maurizio Cazzati, a musical drama of shattering intensity unfolds.
