About
Gaskačázis is an audiovisual live performance combining sound and image. It was created jointly by the composer and musician Markus Thonhaugen (iDJa) and the visual artist Eili Bråstad. The title is a Northern Sámi word for the space beneath the surface; using contact microphones, a microscope and improvised joik, it invites the audience on a meditative journey through a northern landscape, exploring the interface between nature, indigenous culture and modern technology. Against the backdrop of the challenges facing nature in Sápmi through human intervention, sound and visual elements respond to each other in real time.
