About
„Aşina – The Sounds of Mesopotamia“ is a concert in the Kleiner Saal of the Konzerthaus Berlin, bringing to life transmitted melodies and improvisations from the lands between the Euphrates and the Tigris. The evening is led by kemençe player Derya Türkan, who directs the artistic concept and gathers an ensemble with Dilek Türkan (voice), İbrahim Muslimani, Serkan Halili, Shahab Azinmehr, Efrén López and Sedef Erçetin. Mesopotamia counts among the oldest soundscapes of the world; in the concert, ancient modes, folk melodies and improvisations meet and bind different languages and rhythms into a shared pulse. Turkish, Syrian, Kurdish and Persian sounds invite not to a journey into the past but to an encounter with a living tradition – as part of the Konzerthaus series „Aşina“, which seeks to hear the familiar in the seemingly foreign.
