Gedenken an die Novemberpogrome 1938 I "Hymne an die Namen"
Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche, Breitscheidplatz, 10789 Berlin, Charlottenburg
About
A commemorative concert marking the November pogroms of 1938 at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. In the “Hymne an die Namen”, mezzo-soprano Kim Seligsohn sings the names of people who lived in the immediate neighbourhood of the church and whose shops were looted and destroyed. The idea for this commemoration grew out of her personal history – her grandmother Marianne was deported by the Nazis and murdered in Auschwitz – and it puts the individual stories of the victims, together with their names, at its centre. It is an attempt to give sound to the inconceivable, for as long as the names are “alive”, the dead are not forgotten.
