Jugend ohne Gott
Deutsches Theater, Schumannstraße 13a, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
At the Deutsches Theater, the stage adaptation of Ödön von Horváth's novel „Jugend ohne Gott" is performed, directed by Emel Aydoğdu and played by the ensemble in the Kammer. In a world shaped by totalitarian ideology and moral coldness, the production tells a disturbing story of guilt, responsibility and the loss of values. A teacher who refuses to accept his pupils' racist and misanthropic views becomes increasingly isolated; after a murder during a military youth camp, he unwittingly becomes complicit and searches for truth and moral action. This timeless parable about people's manipulability and the need for civil courage asks what happens when societies abandon their values and moral action becomes a risk.
