"Ausflug der toten Mädchen" is a theatre production based on Anna Seghers's novella, directed by Josephine Witt. The novella was written in 1944 while the author was in exile in Mexico. At the end of the school year around 1900, a class of girls enjoys an outing on the Rhine with a boat trip, cake and first infatuations – yet love and friendship turn to hatred and contempt, friends become betrayers and betrayed, driven into flight or the concentration camp. The production explores the existential abysses between friends in a time of social terror, asking what consequences betrayal holds for one's own life.
