Kleidung macht den Mönch: tour on early Christian Egypt.

“Kleidung macht den Mönch” is a curator-led tour subtitled “Porträts von Abt und Bischof aus dem frühchristlichen Ägypten”. Participants take a journey through time to early Christian Egypt and take a closer look at portraits of a bishop and an abbot. The tour asks which personalities hide behind them and how their special status can be recognised; clothing and accessories played an essential role in this, and reconstructions help to understand what is depicted. Those who wish can step into the role of an abbot and try on the reconstructed garments; the meeting point is the equestrian statue in the Great Dome.
