Light and Dark

"Spaces & Species: Light and Dark" is a Lab Talk on light pollution, exploring how lighting design can balance safety, atmosphere and urban quality with the protection of nature and nocturnal ecosystems. It is organised by the Aedes Metropolitan Laboratory in collaboration with the Berlin Senate Department for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment. The discussion focuses on the new Section 41a of the German Federal Nature Conservation Act, its effects on the lighting of buildings, façades and public spaces, and innovative approaches to sustainable lighting design. Together with lighting designers, architects, urban and landscape planners, project developers, municipalities, public authorities and nature and environmental protection, participants will discuss how a more conscious approach to light can succeed – and what opportunities this opens up for liveable cities and species protection.
