About
At Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Monteverdi's opera “L’incoronazione di Poppea”, an early-baroque masterpiece from 1642, is being performed. Diego Fasolis conducts and Eva-Maria Höckmayr directs, with Anna Prohaska as Poppea and Raffaele Pe as Nerone. The opera unfolds like a political thriller: Poppea wants to become empress at Nerone's side and seduces him into casting off his wife Ottavia, while Seneca and Ottone try to stand in her way. In the end, the most ruthless couple triumphs – it is sung in Italian with German and English surtitles.
