About
A guided tour of Martin Niemöller's former rectory at the Martin-Niemöller-Haus in Dahlem. It is led by Dr. Claudia Fröhlich and visits the place where, from 1933, oppositional theologians and members of the Confessing Church met. At its centre is Elisabeth Schmitz, a teacher and Christian who resigned from the school service after the pogroms of early November 1938, refusing to take part in the „Formung des nationalsozialistischen Menschen“ demanded by the National Socialists. It also tells of men and women who helped persecuted Jews and supported dismissed „nichtarisch“ pastors, and of Niemöller's sermons defending the freedom of faith and the church – up to his arrest by the Gestapo on 1 July 1937.
