North Whale Island
Kino Central, Rosenthaler Straße 39, 10178 Berlin, Mitte
About
"North Whale Island" is a dialogue-free documentary about two men who arrive on a remote subarctic island with basic tools and a bag of salt. For three weeks they live only from what the sea offers and what the land allows, while the film observes long days with bright nights and the quiet rhythm of work. It is directed by Trond Ansten and Clemens Wilhelm; the German premiere takes place in the presence of the filmmakers, moderated by Vanina Saracino, with live music by Torgeir Vassvik and supported by the Embassy of Norway. Shot in complete isolation and only with solar energy, the film shows how the boundary between human effort and the forces of nature slowly dissolves.
