About
„Retina Maneuver“ is a live performance by the theater collective K-hole Karaoke, led by Taiwanese director Ping-Hsiang Wang. It follows a Taiwanese military reservist who is fascinated by Alicia Keys’ hit „Girl on Fire“, a gay anthem he has sung countless times in karaoke bars. As he sings the song’s climax, he is struck by a confusing realization: he can no longer place himself in the timeline of his own life, as the transformative song was released on September 4, 2012. In a fanatical search through his digital archives, Wang wrestles with the fragility of memory and a past haunted by violence and destruction.
