Spill Your Guts: Waiting Room Visions

A darkly humorous, English-language ventriloquist show in which a man stands on stage with a doll and argues with his own chronic inflammatory bowel disease. Behind the project is the performance and action artist Hendrik Quast, who learned the art of ventriloquism for it. Half healthy, half sick, the sharp-tongued doll embodies his invisible illness, while theatre, comedy and musical carry the piece through shame, the healthcare system, outrageous illness anecdotes and invisible disability. The English-language new development brings a disability-arts perspective on hidden disabilities, combining crip comedy, personification and theatre in its own peculiar way.
