A solo theatre evening titled “T-Boy on Grindr” at the Berliner Ensemble, performed in English with German surtitles. In his first solo, João d’Orey tells an autofictional story of T-Boy, a trans teenager who navigates the conventions of the cis-gay community on the dating app Grindr, only to find his body is often not perceived as male. Through monologue, song and dance, the character embarks on a turbulent hero’s journey between digital intimacy and the question of how queer and trans bodies are desired and excluded. Malaya Stern Takeda directs in what is her directing debut, with music by Ralph Heidel and João d’Orey and choreography by Steven Fast.
