About
Children who find learning to read difficult can read aloud in a relaxed way to a reading dog named Chess. After a short introduction, each child has about 15 minutes to read to the dog, petting him and giving him a treat, while the parents wait in the library. The dog does not laugh at mistakes and does not interrupt, so children read aloud without fear or criticism and associate positive feelings with reading. The programme is run by the Neukölln public library at the Helene-Nathan-Bibliothek; participation is free and registration is required.
